There will be fight between Miya and Asomiya civilisations in Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there would be fight in Assam between two civilisations—Miya and Asomiya (Assamese).

“Miya doesn’t mean only Muslims. The term Assamese doesn’t include only Hindus. Miyas are those who advocate Miya poetry and Miya museum and try to destroy Assamese and Indian existence. Those Muslims who respect Sankar-Ajan and Madhavdeva, consider Assam and India as their homeland, do not dream to establish Miya museum at Sankardeva Kalakshetra, they are Assamese. The fight will be between the civilisations of Miya and Asomiya,” he said on Wednesday.

He also highlighted the need of population control in the religious minority community of Assam.

“We have been working for the Islam. We want to make their children doctors and engineers. The Madrassas were producing Imams. Therefore, they have been transformed in to general schools,” he added.

A bill seeking to abolish all state-run Madrassas and transform them into regular schools was passed by Assam Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

“Glad that the Bill pertaining to repeal of Provincialisation of Madrassas has been passed, even as Assam Congress and AIUDF expectedly staged a walkout in Assembly. All Madrassas, being run under government, stand converted into regular educational institutes wef April 1, 2021,” Dr. Sarma tweeted.

He also stated that after 20 years, people of Jania and Baghbar constituencies will also vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

These two constituencies are strongholds of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Congress. Presently, Jania and Baghbar are represented by AIUDF and Congress legislators respectively.

Sarma said that in the next 20 years, the conservative society would be transformed into a progressive one.

“After 20 years, people of Jania and Baghbar will also vote for BJP. Because, we are setting up women colleges, we have abolished triple talaq. We will make doctors and engineers from their community instead of making Imams.  So, after 20 years, we will always win in Jania and Baghbar,” Sarma said.
