Guwahati: There is good news for wildlife lovers in Assam. The recently published ‘Status of Tigers in India 2018’ report states that the number of tigers as per the 2018 census is 190.
The earlier tiger census done in 2014 showed 167 tigers in Assam. It means that in past four years there was an increase of 23 tigers.
The report released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that in the Assam tiger census of 2006 the total number of tigers stood at only 70 which grew to 147 by 2010.
It shows that in past 12 years from 2006 to 2018 the number of tigers grew to 120 which is a 171 per cent increase.
