GUWAHATI: The 4-day 2nd Green Book Fair of Asom Prakashan Parishad organised under the aegis of Assam Tea Tribes Directorate for Welfare in association of Asom Sah Jonogosthi Sahitya Sabha at Tezpur Nehru Maidan has drawn huge crowd on its 2nd day. The book lovers of the town thronged the book fair today. They also relished various cultural and literary events organised on occasion of the book fair.
The book fair was inaugurated on Saturday by the vice-chancellor of the Majuli University of Culture Dr. Dambarudhar Nath.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Nath said, “Only books can stop the decaying process of Assamese language. The death of literature and tradition will lead to the death of history.”
Attending the inaugural function, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa released an anthology of writings by prominent tea-tribe author Narayan Ghatowar. The anthology has been edited by Sushil Kurmi and published by Asom Prakashan Parishad.
In his speech, MP Tasa said that people should not only be politically aware, but they should also pay importance to books and literature.
Attending the event as a guest of honour, Tezpur MLA lauded the initiative of Sah Jonogosthi Sahitya Sabha and Asom Prakashan Parishad.
