Tea garden employee abducted by ULFA(I)

The ULFA(I) has once again abducted a tea garden employee after slapping a demand notice on the authorities of the tea estate where he was working as a storekeeper at Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh.

Debabrata Deb, who was working as storekeeper at Sati Tea Estate owned by Arunachal deputy CM Chowna Mein’s wife N Sati Mein, was reportedly abducted by a 7-member group of suspected ULFA(I) militants that came to the tea estate and demanded Rs 3 crore extortion sum from the estate authorities.

Although the abduction took place on Saturday night, it came to limelight this morning.

Police said suspected ULFA(I) cadres came to the garden and demanded Rs 3 crore extortion from the tea garden after which Deb was abducted from his quarter at Piyong in Namsai district of Arunachal.

The anti-talks ULFA faction has been upping the ante in eastern Assam districts and in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and has also launched a fresh extortion drive, targeting tea gardens, businessmen and even government officials.
