Tarun Gogoi no more: CM Sonowal announces three-day State mourning

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the state government would observe three-day State mourning in honour of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi who breathed his last on Monday evening. CM Sonowal also paid his last respect to the former CM and country’s veteran politician at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday.

Later talking to media persons, Sonowal said, “With the death of former CM Tarun Gogoi, the state has lost a great leader. He set high moral standards with his selfless service to the people. I feel like losing a father at his death.”

Sonowal upon hearing the news of deteriorating health condition of the former CM, cancelled all his official engagements at Dibrugarh and returned to Guwahati by air. He went directly from the LGBI Airport to the GMCH and paid his tribute to Gogoi, the longest-serving chief minister of Assam.
