GUWAHATI: Assam Health, Finance, and Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday during a public gathering in the Udalguri district of Assam said that a total of 11,000 families living in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) will receive land pattas (rights) in the next few days. The minister also announced that Tamulpur will soon be a new district of Assam.
“Today in this meeting, Bodo people have received land patta, Adivasi people received land pattas. People from Gorkha, Assamese and other communities will get land pattas within the next 7-10 days, a total of 11,000 families living in BTR will receive land Pattas,” said Dr. Sarma.
“Tamulpur will be a new district soon and after its addition, there will be 5 districts in BTC. We have a number of projects for Tamulpur including new Medical College, Engineering College, Veterinary College, Central University, Sports College, Skill Centre, ITI,” said the minister.
Also, a land and revenue office will be set up at Baksa, informed Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Assam Government has already sanctioned Rs. 500 crore for the development of BTR including roads. On the other hand, Rs. 676 crore of the BTC have also been handed over to the authorities for developmental works.
The minister announced a number of projects for Udalguri. A new Bodoland University campus will be established in Udalguri, informed the Minister during his speech.
“A new Bodoland University campus will be set-up at Udalguri and before January 29, new government colleges will be set up at Baksa, Chirang, and Udalguri. A new road will connect Tangla to Udalguri, Udalguri to Baksa, and Baksa to Kokrajhar, we are planning for it,” said Dr. Sarma
The Pagladia Bridge which is in a very bad condition will be repaired and the Assam Government has sanctioned Rs. 30 crore for its renovation, informed Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“On January 29, the Pagladia bridge-work will start. Assam Government has sanctioned Rs. 30 crore for its renovation,” Sarma added.
