Guwahati: Sushmita Sen has been the epitome of grace! From being crowned as Miss Universe at the age of 18 to helming movie characters  the star has ruled hearts across the globe.

Be it the sexy red sari in Main Hoon Naa or the muted colour palette silhouettes in the web series Aarya, Sushmita has carried off each look with elan.

 Sushmita Sen has managed to stay on top of her game ever since. Having been very selective with the films she’s taken on, Sen has ensured her filmography is made up of a wide range of characters, genres and storylines.

On the actor’s 46th birthday, let us take a look at some of the memorable performances of Sushmita:

Neha – Sirf Tum (1999)

A remake of hit Tamil film Kadhal Kottai, Sirf Tum is still remembered for Sushmita’s glamorous performance on Dilbar song. The love story starred Sanjay Kapoor and Priya Gill. Sushmita played a supporting role in this movie directed by Agathiyan and produced by Boney Kapoor.

Rupali – ‘Biwi No1’ (1999)

Sharing the screen with the likes of Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu and Anil Kapoor, Sen took on a role that many of that time would turn away. The comedy about an extra-marital affair, Sen plays the glamorous other woman, who despite being an unlikable character, audiences fell in love with. Sen immediately displayed incredible talent through her performance, where she shined through so much, it became her first award-winning performance.

Sia Seth – ‘Filhaal’ (2002)

Taking on another project with Tabu, where this time they play best friends, ‘Filhaal’ was thought-provoking and addressed the subject of surrogacy which was still a taboo subject at the time. The audience loved the chemistry between the two actresses who played best friends, which made it all the more heartfelt in seeing their characters go through the intensities of bearing children in the way. With her performance, Sen encouraged the audience to invest in her character’s journey as a surrogate, bringing the realities of such an act to the surface.

Aankhen (2002)

A movie with an elaborately planned heist at its core starred Sushmita as a teacher at the school for the blind. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Ajay Devgn, and Paresh Rawal. Bachchan plays the role of a mastermind who plans to rob a bank with the help of three blind men, played by Arjun, Ajay, and Paresh. The movie directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah was a commercial success.

Main Hoon Na (2004)

One of the most remarkable movies of Sushmita, Main Hoon Na continues to be a favourite among her fans. Directed by Farah Khan, the action drama starred Shah Rukh Khan, Zayed Khan, Suneil Shetty, and Amrita Rao. Sushmita essayed the role of a chemistry teacher at a college where she falls in love with her student, played by Shah Rukh. Sushmita’s character was glamorised with sensuous sarees, and fashion sense which certainly became one of the highlights of the movie.

Aarya Sareen – ‘Aarya’ (2020)

With OTT platforms paving the way for directors, writers, and producers to become more creative with their projects, Sen’s debut on the web series ‘Aarya’ was the perfect move into taking on yet another thought-provoking role. After her husband is shot in an attempted murder case, Aarya’s search for the truth begins to unfold in ways beyond her imagination could ever take her. Having been one of Hotstar’s most watched series, Sen’s performance is impeccable. Gripping her viewers from the beginning, it’s her own character development that keeps them on the edge of their seats. Yet another award-winning performance, Sen is unforgettable, where she makes viewers want more. And they will get more in the upcoming season.
