Guwahati: Strict action would be taken from Monday against people who do not use masks or face coverings in public and disobey social distancing rules, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna said on Saturday, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to his Twitter Kumar Sanjay Krishna said, “It has been noticed that people are not following precautionary steps and are violating the COVID Protocols. From Monday onwards there shall be visible strict action taken against those who violate the norms of social distancing or found not wearing a face mask.@assampolice”

The Tweet was also shared by Assam Police.

Earlier on Friday, Kumar Sanjay Krishna said that government may mull over imposing lockdown if people do not wear masks and cases keep rising.

“If people do not wear masks and cases continue to rise, the government of Assam will be compelled to impose lockdown again. We do not expect such a situation to prevail,” said Krishna.

He urged the citizens to follow all the COVID-19 protocols.

“We have been asking people to wear a mask when they step outside. If they do not obey this rule, we have to ask the police to charge Rs. 1,000 strictly for not wearing the masks,” the chief secretary added.
