The stage is all set for the formal inauguration of Bogibeel Bridge, the longest road-cum-rail bridge of the country built over the Brahmaputra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally dedicate the 4.96-km-long double-decker bridge to the nation tomorrow (Dec 25).
The bridge will connect Dibrugarh with Dhemaji on the north bank and will cut travel time from three to less than an hour.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited both ends of the bridge today to overview preparations for tomorrow’s inauguration and said Assam will witness a momentous occasion tomorrow after Prime Minister Modi formally inaugurates the historic bridge.
Sonowal said PM Modi’s aircraft is expected to land at the Mohanbari airport at 1:30 pm. He will then take a chopper ride to Bogibeel and dedicate the bridge to the nation.
“Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive at Mohanbari airport at 1:30 pm and will fly down to the venue to formally dedicate the bridge to the nation. He will also address the people of Assam. It’s a momentus occasion for Assam and the people,” Sarbananda Sonowal said after inspecting preparations at Dibrugarh and Dhemaji ends of the bridge.
Meanwhile, security has been heightened in the run-up to the inauguration of Bogibeel Bridge by PM Modi with SPG guards taking over the security of the entire stretch of the bridge. Over 1,500 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed for tomorrow’s inauguration ceremony.
NF Railway authorities, meanwhile, have arranged four special trains to ferry people to the venue while the first train to chug along the Bogibeel tracks will leave Dibrugarh around 11:30 am.
