GUWAHATI: The Assam government has decided to strengthen the special task force to prevent rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park (KNP), said Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta after a meeting with chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.
CM Sarma reviewed flood preparedness as well as safety of wildlife of the national park at a meeting with deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, officials of forest and veterinary departments of Golaghat, Nagaonm Sonitpur, Biswanath and Karbi Anglong at Kaziranga.
The meeting which was held in the presence of ministers Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, Ajanta Neog, Parimal Suklabaidya, assembly deputy speaker Dr Numal Momin decided to appoint an ASP and DSP additionally for the task force.
“It has been decided to appoint an ASP and DSP additionally to strengthen the task force,” said Mahanta.
On the other hand, the government decided to increase the amount of ration for the forest staff.
“The forest personnel of the state were getting monthly ration of Rs 830. Honourable chief minister has decided to increase the amount to Rs 2,000. It will be released soon,” minister Mahanta added.
