GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday recalled Chilarai, the legendary general of Koch dynasty in the 16th century on his birth anniversary.
Taking to Twitter, CM Sonowal wrote, “Tributes to one of the greatest warriors of India, the legendary Koch general Bir Chilarai on his jayanti.”

On the other hand, minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed the great warrior as an invaluable inspiration.
“I pay tribute to him on his birth anniversary,” he said in a tweet.

Sukhladhwaj, the general of Koch Army during the rule of his brother Nara Narayan earned the epithet of Chilarai (swift as a kite) for his valour and dexterity.
Chilarai also made immense contributions in the fields of culture and religion of the region.
