Sonapur, Kalapahar Hospitals to remain on standby to accommodate COVID-19 patients

GUWAHATI: In the view of rising COVID-19 cases in Assam, the Assam health department has decided to keep Sonapur Civil Hospital and Kalapahar Hospital in Guwahati on a standby to accommodate more COVID-19 patients, informed health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Dr. Sarma on Wednesday visited both the hospitals and took stock of the arrangements for COVID-19 treatment.

“We have to convert the Kalapahar Hospital into a fully COVID-19 hospital. We will get 140 beds here. We will be able to keep 80 patients at Sonapur Civil Hospital. The new unit at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will be ready within May 27. We will be able to keep 200 patients there,” said Dr. Sarma.

He also stated that health department has made arrangements to treat 1,000 patients in Guwahati.
