Sivasagar: Rangpur Mela begins at Rang Ghar

GUWAHATI: Celebrating the Pahila Magh (first day of the Magh month) people from all walks of life visited the historical Rang Ghar Bakori in Sivasagar, Assam to enjoy the annual Rangpur Mela.

Organised by TAIPA, a youth organisation of Tai Ahoms, Rongpur Mela completed its 10th year this time.

Folk dances and various other cultural activities were undertaken where different communities participated displaying the larger Assamese cultural fabric.

Dancers from Tiwa, Garo, Bodo, Mising and Tai Ahom communities took part in the mela. Also, indigenous games and sports were part of the Rangpur Mela festivities.

It is to be mentioned that almost three centuries ago traditional games and sports were introduced at Rang Ghar during Bhogali Bihu. This tradition has continued till date.
