Singer Kalpana Patoway joins AGP

GUWAHATI: Popular singer Kalpana Patoway has joined Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Friday. Patoway who has many popular Bhojpuri songs to her credit joined the regional party at a function held at its headquarters in Guwahati.

AGP president and minister Atul Bora and other senior leaders of the party welcomed the singer.

Speaking on the occasion, Kalpana said, “We should emphasise on implementing clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The number of women from Assam in politics is relatively lower.”

Earlier, the singer also joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Kalpana Patowary who was born in Assam’s Barpeta and brought up in Guwahati sings in Assamese, Bhojpuri, Hindi, Bengali, English and 25 other languages with around 9000 songs to her credit. Her international release MASSICAL from BIRDjam Label Germany with Trilok Gurtu was widely acclaimed. The Legacy of Bhikhari Thakur, her solo Bhojpuri musical documentation on the Shakespeare of Bhojpuri literature released from EMI/Virgin Records got her international reputation. She also performed in MTV Coke Studio.
