Singer-Composer Shankar Mahadevan celebrates his 54th birthday, playlist of his most popular numbers

Guwahati: Shankar Mahadevan celebrates his 54th birthday today on March 3. The singer and music composer has blessed the film industry with his soulful voice and music. Not just Bollywood, but his contribution has gone beyond and in many other languages

After doing engineering, Shankar left his job in a good place and made his art his profession.

Shankar was born on 03 March in Chembur. His mother was fluent in Tamil. Shankar Mahadevan started learning music from the age of five. His first mentor was Shrinivas Khale, a popular Tamil composer. But due to his merit in studies, his parents decided to teach him music as well as engineering. He did engineering in computer science from Mumbai. And after that, worked in Oracle Company for 9 months. Along with the same work, Shankar also tended towards music.

He later collaborated with Ehsaan and Loy, and the trio gave us some memorable soundtracks from Rockford to Mission Kashmir, to Dil Chahta Hai to Kal Ho Naa Ho to Rock On to… so and on. Shankar Mahadevan had gone on to win National Awards, Filmfare Awards and was recently conferred with Padma Shri.

Breathless

This song was from Shankar’s 1998 album of the same name. The unique thing about this song is that it appeared like it was sung in one breath and many people believed the same, however, the singer has clarified in his interviews that Breathless was not sung in one breath. The song was composed by Shankar and written by legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar.

Maa

Composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and voiced by Shankar, the song is from the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. Picturised on Darsheel Safary who played the role of a kid with dyslexia in the film, Shankar received a National Film Award for Best Playback Singer for this song.

 

Man Mohini

Picturised on a fiery Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who played the role of Nandini in the 1999 hit film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, the song was composed by Ismail Darbar and written by Mehboob Kotwal.

Sapno Se Bhare Naina

Another gem of a song by the singer from the film, Luck By Chance. The track simply captures the ambitious emotion.

Dil Chahta Hai:

The title song of one of the most celebrated movies on friends has everyone’s heart. This Shankar Mahadevan track is a regular thing to play in the car while on any road trip!

Kajra Re

Sung by Shankar, Alisha Chinai and Javed Ali, the song has been picturised on Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. This peppy number became a hit soon after its release in 2005. It was composed by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy and written by Gulzar.
