SI Junmoni Rabha Death Case: Family seeks CBI probe after Assam CM assurance

PUBLISHED:

Family Members of SI Junmoni Rabha have now demanded a CBI probe in the death case of the deceased official after Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma assured that he is ready to hand over the investigation to the CBI if the family members aren’t satisfied with the CID probe.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said he is ready to hand over the probe into the death of 30-year-old sub-inspector Junmoni Rabha to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if the family of the deceased police official demands

Speaking to the media, CM Sarma said, “The CID team will be in touch with Rabha’s family. There’s no question of sparing anyone if found guilty. If the family members of the deceased police officer demand, I am ready to hand over the investigation to CBI.”

CM Sarma also stated, “There are many aspects involved in the incident. Hence, it will be unfair to criticize the deceased. Similarly, it is unfair to point out fingers at the entire police department for the entire incident.”

Addressing the mother of  Junmoni Rabha, Chief Minister Sarma requested her trust in the Assam Police and CID, considering Jonmoni Rabha’s association with the police department. He also urged the CID to provide comprehensive details of their investigation to the grieving family.

CM Sarma also said the smuggling of fake gold continues from Lakhimpur as well as other parts of the state and the police are trying to crack down on every possible angle for the last three years.

Meanwhile, the CID Assam has carried out an interrogation at the Nagaon police guest house in connection to the suspicious death of the Kaliabor SI Junmoni Rabha on Thursday.

As part of their investigation, the CID has summoned the officer-in-charge of Nagaon Sadar police station, OC Manoj Rajbongshi, for questioning.

Earlier, the officer-in-charge of Haibargaon police station, OC Abhajyoti Rabha, was also summoned by the CID.

A dedicated three-member CID investigation team has been stationed at the Bangalmora police station in the Lakhimpur district. This team has been meticulously examining relevant documents and evidence as they strive to uncover the truth behind Officer Junmoni Rabha’s death.

Junmoni’s car was parked on the highway; saw three persons near it before truck crashed into it, claims eyewitness Pranab Das

On the other hand, CID on Thursday picked up the eyewitness Pranab Das, of Bokakhat in Golaghat district.

Pranab Das, who first emerged on Wednesday night and has since added an entirely new twist to Junmoni’s death, claimed to have seen her car parked by the roadside at around 1:30 am Monday night.

He also claimed to have seen a man wearing black pants and shoes and a wheatish brown shirt come out of the car while two more persons were loitering around the car before it was hit by the trailer truck.

He claimed that he was returning from Guwahati and had reached the spot where the accident had reportedly taken place. He said that it was after the man had stepped out of the car that the trailer crashed into the car.

His statement is in stark contradiction to the official version that Junmoni’s car which she was driving collided head-on with the truck resulting in her death.

After making these allegations at Bokakhat on Wednesday night, Pranab reached News Live’s Guwahati office where he stood by the statements he had made besides making several more sensational revelations regarding Junmoni’s death.

Significantly, Pranab, a driver by profession, was taken by a team of Assam CID from News Live’s office in Guwahati for questioning since his statements added a new twist to the probe.
