Setback for Indian Cricket Team ahead of ODI series against West Indies, Covid outbreak in camp

Guwahati: In a major setback for the Indian Cricket Team, as many as 7 members, including 4 players, have tested positive for COVID-19 just ahead of the ODI series against the West Indies.

As per reports, batsmen Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, and fast bowler Navdeep Saini have tested positive for COVID-19, besides three other staff members. The BCCI, through a statement, said that the COVID-affected players will remain in isolation till they attain complete recovery and that the board is constantly monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, to fill the void left by this new setback, the All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Mayank Agarwal to India’s ODI squad.

It is worth mentioning here that Team India is scheduled to play the first of 3 ODIs at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on February 6th, and BCCI officials are confident that the series will go ahead as per schedule. Earlier, BCCI selectors had named an 18-member squad led by Rohit Sharma for the 3-match series at Ahmedabad.

Apart from that, 3 T20 internationals are scheduled to be held in Kolkata from February 16th.

With this new development, new faces like M Shahrukh Khan, R Sai Kishore, and Rishi Dhawan, who are standby players for the series, may be featured in the team if the need arises.
