Security forces arrest 5 militants in Manipur in past 48 hours, recover arms and ammunition

Security forces also recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from a sixth operation.

GUWAHATI, March 19: Security forces arrested 5 militants from various parts of Manipur in separate operations in the past 48 hours. Arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials were also recovered from them.

In the first incident, security forces arrested an active cadre of KCP(PWG), identified as Khundrakpam Michael Singh (33) of Ningthoukhong Kha Ward No. 7 under Bishnupur Police Station of Bishnupur district, from Ningthoukhong Kha Keirungbam Leikai in Bishnupur district on Monday.

A 9 mm pistol with empty magazine, four numbers of 9 mm ammunition, a 9 mm empty case, an AK live round, a 7.62 mm live round, two live rounds of .303 rifle, a mobile phone with two SIM cards and an Aadhaar Card were recovered from him.

Manipur Police arrested another cadre of KCP(PWG), identified as Laishram Tomba Singh (33) of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai under Wangoi Police Station of Imphal West district, from his residence on Monday. Manipur Police said the arrested militant was involved in extortion, and targeted the general people, govt. employees and local shopkeepers.

A mobile phone was seized from his possession.

In the third incident, Manipur Police arrested a cadre of PREPAK/UPPK who was earlier associated with the RPF/PLA. The militant — Athokpam Romiyo Singh @ Ngamba (44) of Shamurou Naorem Chaprou Makha Leikai under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district — was arrested from his residence.

He was also involved in extortion, and targeted general people, govt. employees and local shopkeepers.

Two mobile phone with SIM card and an Aadhaar Card were seized from his possession.

In the fourth operation, security forces arrested an active cadre of RPF/PLA, identified as Lourembam Brojen Singh alias Dyson (50), from Langol Game Village Zone III near Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district on Monday. Two mobile handsets, a two-wheeler and an Aadhaar Card were recovered from him.

Manipur Police, in the fifth operation, arrested an active member of KCP (PWG) from Langthabal Kunja Mamang Leikai near Konsam Oil Pump under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district.

The arrested militant has been identified as Ningthoukhongjam Sushil Meitei alias Kangla alias Ishingchaoba (50).

A mobile phone was seized from him.

Security forces also recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from Thoubal district in another operation.

A 7.62 mm SLR along with magazine, an anti-riot gun, two 36 HE hand grenades, a detonator, an arming ring, an INSAS LMG Magazine, four tear smoke shells, two rubber bullets, a tear smoke shell, seven 7.62 mm ammunition, 10 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, 20 tracer round etc. were recovered during the operation.
