GUWAHATI: The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati has been witnessing a sea of humanity after the news of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s demise broke out on Monday evening.
Political echeleons including Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and a huge crowd of well wishers arrived in the GMCH to pay their last respects to the stalwart.
“We have lost a great leader. Personally, I have lost a father like figure,” said Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal.
Sonowal also declared a three-day state mourning in the honour of three-time chief minister.
Sonowal recalled Tarun Gogoi’s guidance while the former took oath as the chief minister replacing Gogoi.
“Gogoida asked me to work for the people living in the Barak-Brahmaputra valleys as well as hills and plains of Assam,” Sonowal added.
