GUWAHATI: All the educational institutions including schools, colleges, universities and student hostels in Guwahati will remain closed till May 11 as Kamrup Metropolitan district surpassed 1000-mark in daily COVID-19 cases.
Kamrup Metro district recorded 1,153 positive cases on Monday. Following the spike, the district administration ordered closure of all the government and non-government educational institutions including schools, colleges, universities, coaching institutes and all category of student hostels. The order will remain in effect from April 27 to May 11.
“…as active COVID – 19 cases have crossed the 1000 mark on a particular day in Kamrup Metropolitan District, all the educational Institutions (Government & Non-Government) including Colleges, Universities, Coaching Institutes and all category of student’s Hostel are hereby declared closed w.e.f. 27th April, 2021 to 11th May, 2021,” read the order.

With cases in Kamrup Metro exceeding 1000, I’ve advised DC to shut down all educational instns including hostels for 15 days for now. All other districts, where the numbers reach a threshold that require such measures, shall follow suit.

It also asked the institutions to make online classes available for the students.
Following the order, Gauhati University postponed all the examinations of the university as well as its affiliated colleges and institutions.

All the hostels of the GU will also remain closed till May 11.
Earlier, Cotton University suspended UG 1st semester and HS (Final) practical examinations following the surge in cases in the capital city.
