GUWAHATI: Assam Police arrested a man named Sahidul Ali in the suicide case of Rupali Nath, a student of Bhattadev University. Sahidul was arrested after victim’s mother lodged an FIR with Pathsala Police Station alleging that he was harassing Rupali for a long period of time. The 20-year-old girl was found hanging on Saturday night in a rented house at Pragati Nagar in Pathsala town under Barpeta district. She was living in the rented accommodation with her family. The family originally hails from Golaghat.
The family members of the victim alleged that Sahidul Ali alias Bheda, a resident of Islampur of Pathsala entrapped Rupali into relationship with his fake Facebook account in the name of Rahul Roy. When Rupali came to know the reality, he used to harass her by different means.
The family of Rupali alleged that she has committed suicide owing to the mental harassment she had to undergo from Sahidul.
Several organisations including the All Assam Kalita Janagosthi Students’ Union (AAKJSU) and Pathsala unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have demanded stringent punishment for the culprit.
