Rohit Sharma replaces Virat Kohli as Captain of India’s ODIs and T20Is team

Guwahati: Rohit Sharma will replace Virat Kohli as Captain of India’s ODIs and T20Is team.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided to name Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI and T20I teams going forward,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted on Wednesday (December 8).

Rohit Sharma also replaces Ajinkya Rahane as India’s Test vice-captain.

Virat Kohli has already stepped down from captaining the T20I side.

Further, the All India senior selection committee on Wednesday picked an 18-member squad for the Test series against South Africa.

India’s Test squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Md. Siraj.

Standby Players: Navdeep Saini, Saurabh Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Arzan Nagwaswalla.

India will play 3 Tests and 3 ODIs against South Africa starting December 26 in South Africa.

The first Test will be played between  December 26-30, 2021 in Centurion while the Second Test between January 3-7, 2022, in Johannesburg and the 
Third Test will be on January 11-15, 2022, in Cape Town. 

India’s ODI squad for the South Africa’s tour is yet to be announced.
