River cruise between Assam, Uttar Pradesh to begin soon

Guwahati: In a major boost towards the development of river tourism in Assam, a new luxury river cruise service is all set to begin between Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Dibrugarh in Assam via Kolkata and & Indo Bangladesh Protocol Route.

Towards achieving this a memorandum of understanding was signed between Inland Waterways Authority of India and Antara Luxury River Cruises and JM Baxi River Cruises during the International Cruise Conference 2022 in Mumbai.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, and the Union Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of North-eastern Region (DONER), Gangapuram Kisan Reddy were present at the historic event where eight major Memorandums of Understanding were signed for boosting river cruise tourism in the country.

Of these, two MoUs were signed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India or IWAI with Antara Luxury River Cruises & JM Baxi River Cruises to introduce river cruise service between Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Bogibeel in Dibrugarh, Assam.

It may be mentioned here that the Government of India has allocated Rupees 648.80 crores to develop ten projects under Coastal Thematic Circuits.
