Rishi Sunak all set be 1st Indian-origin UK PM

PUBLISHED:

Rishi Sunak is now most likely to succeed Liz Truss as the first Indian-origin UK Prime Minister.

The road ahead for the UK Prime Minister’s post is almost clear for Sunak after former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson pulled out of the Conservative party leadership race.

Sunak after the development said Johnson had led the nation through some of the toughest challenges including Brexit, COVID vaccine rollout and UK’s stand on the Ukraine crisis besides others.

Rishi Sunak took to Twitter and said “Boris Johnson delivered Brexit and the great vaccine roll-out. He led our country through some of the toughest challenges we have ever faced, and then took on Putin and his barbaric war in Ukraine. We will always be grateful to him for that.”

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson backing his move said “this would simply not be the right thing to do” as “you can’t govern effectively unless you have a united party in Parliament.”
