While polling to elect a new Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council will take place on April 2, counting of votes will take place on April 4; Residents hail ASEC’s announcement to hold elections
GUWAHATI, March 8: People of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC)-administered areas have hailed the Assam State Election Commission or ASEC’s announcement to hold elections to the RHAC on April 2. After the announcement, RHAC-administered areas are already witnessing heightened politicking with the last date for filing nominations fixed on March 15 between 11 am to 3 pm.
Elections will be held for all 36 constituencies of the council, the ASEC had announced yesterday (March 7).
Polling will be held from 7 am to 3 pm and counting of votes will take place on April 4 from 8 am.
While the last date for filing nominations has been fixed on March 15, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 17 at 11 am. The list of validly nominated candidates will be published on the same day after scrutiny.
Candidates wishing to withdraw their candidature must do so by 3 pm on March 19, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be published.
In case a re-poll is required, it will be conducted on April 3 within the same time frame.

A total of 4,45,586 voters are eligible to participate in the election, which includes 2,16,181 male voters, 2,29,394 female voters and 11 others. There will be 630 polling stations set up for the smooth conduct of the election.
Among the constituencies, 25 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, of which 4 are reserved for women. Remaining 11 constituencies are unreserved, of which 2 are reserved for women.
The maximum expenditure limit for each candidate is fixed at Rs 2.50 lakh. Regarding star campaigners, recognised national and state political parties can have a maximum of 20 star campaigners, whereas registered unrecognised parties can have a maximum of 10 star campaigners.
For voter identification, the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) will serve as the primary document. However, voters can also produce alternative documents, including Aadhar Card, MNREGA Job Card, passbook with a photograph issued by bank/post office, health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of the Ministry of Labour, driving license, PAN card, smart card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian passport, pension document with photograph, service identity cards with photographs issued to employees of Central or State Government, PSUs and Public Limited Companies, official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs, and MLCs and Unique Disability ID (UDID) card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
Additionally, the Model Code of Conduct has already come into force with immediate effect in the respective areas covered by the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council.
