Quarantined people violate norms at Gauhati University Hostel

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Despite the government’s efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the incoming people under quarantine at Gauhati University hostel have been paying no heed to the quarantine norms. News Live caught some quarantined people roaming freely on the premises of Padmanath Gohain Baruah Boys’ Hostel (AT-6) of the university violating social distancing rules.

The group of around 50 people who hail from Karimganj and had returned from Mumbai by train has been waiting for their COVID-19 test reports. But despite the government’s efforts for a strict quarantine policy, News Live reporter found these people roaming in groups outside their rooms. They paid no heed to the social distancing norms and created an unruly environment at the hostel.

It needs to be mentioned that several COVID-19 positive cases have already been reported from the Gauhati University quarantine centres. Several families of the staff also live on the campus. At such situation, the reluctance of these people to follow quarantine norms has raised serious concerns among the university fraternity.
