GUWAHATI: A Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) team led by Superintendant of Police Sumit Sharma on Friday caught Narayan Chandra Dey red-handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 40,000. Narayan Chandra Dey is currently working as an executive engineer in the PWD, Electrical Division, Tezpur.
As per reports, the accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 for approving a bill regarding electrical work done by a contractor.
The contractor then approached the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and accordingly a trap was laid down as per standard procedure. He offered the engineer the demanded amount and was caught red-handed by the team of ACB. The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused by the ACB team.
Meanwhile, Assam Police has arrested Narayan Chandra Dey and he will be forwarded to the Special Court at Guwahati tomorrow. Search operation is being conducted at the residences of the accused in Guwahati and Tezpur.
