Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone of Dhubri – Phulbari Bridge on Thursday to improve connectivity and to make the state’s communication system more dynamic.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will also be present on the occasion.
With a length of 19.282 km, the country’s largest four-lane bridge will facilitate travel between Assam and Meghalaya. The construction of the largest bridge is expected to be completed by September 2026.
The bridge will be built at a total cost of around ₹4,997 crores. It will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari, Tura, Rongram and Rongjeng in Meghalaya. The proposed bridge will drastically reduce the distance traveled between the two regions.
It is to be noted that on February 26, 2019, the Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the construction of the Dhuburi-Phulbari connecting bridge over the Brahmaputra.
A public meeting has been organized at Adabari in Dhubri on February 16 in line with the groundbreaking program of the laying foundation stone of the bridge to be set up by Prime Minister Modi through virtual media.
Minister for Transport, Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary and several other MLAs will be present on the occasion.
