Guwahati: India’s Mirabai Chanu has made history. The weight-lifter has won a silver medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2021. She has opened up a medal account for India. This is a HUGE achievement for India. Since Karnam Malleswari, India had not won a medal in weight-lifting.
Within minutes of Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu bagging the country’s first medal in the Women’s 49 kg category at the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in celebrating the smashing win.

President Ram Nath Kovind also congratulated India’s weightlifter Mirabai Chanu after she clinched the silver for the country.
