Places of worship to remain closed during lockdown in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Kumar Sanjay Krishna, the chief secretary of Assam and chairman of the State Executive Committee of Assam State Disaster Management Authority has ordered total lockdown in Guwahati to contain COVID-19.  The lockdown will remain in force all the areas under Kamrup Metropolitan district till July 12.

“All places of worship shall remain closed for public. No religious congregation will be permitted without any exception,” stated in an official order.

On the other hand, all social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions and gatherings will be barred.

Earlier addressing a press meet Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the government’s decision to impose total lockdown in Guwahati.
