Parents in Assam get ready to send children to school amid pandemic scare

Guwahati, Aug 8: Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, parents are preparing themselves mentally to send their children back to school. This after Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the government is mulling to reopen schools and colleges from September 1, if the Covid-19 numbers come down in Assam.

Both parents and students have welcomed this move by the state government. Parents are emphasizing on maintaining all Covid-19 guidelines, especially social distancing norms inside and outside the school premises. Students are happy to go back into their classrooms, since schools and colleges are closed since the month of March.

“I am happy that college might reopen if Covid-19 is in control. It’s been five months now. I don’t want to lose a year.” Shristi a degree student said. Her sentiments were resonated by other students.

“I am willing to send my child to school if social distance is maintained inside the school premises,” a parent said.

The government is contemplating a move to reopen schools and colleges from September 1. However, a final decision will be taken based on the central government’s guidelines and the Covid-19 scenario at that point in time. The parents and students are now preparing for the transition into what will be a very different experience from years past.
