Pahalgam Terror Attack: Demands for swift action against terrorists orchestrating the dastardly attacks have grown following the shocking and senseless killings
Pahalgam Terror Attack: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today (April 23) paid tributes to those who lost their lives in the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack as the country, numbed and pained by the shocking attack in which terrorists killed 26 people while at least 20 others injured.
Earlier in the morning, the mortal remains of the victims were brought to Srinagar as the chorus demanding that justice be served at the earliest and their deaths avenged.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia and returned home last night, chaired a meeting at the airport with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and other leaders to discuss the situation in view of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Most Dastardly Attack on Civilians in Jammu & Kashmir
At least four heavily armed militants emerged from the surrounding forests and opened fire on a group of approximately 40 tourists in Baisaran, a meadow often referred to as “mini Switzerland” for its scenic beauty, targeting Hindu tourists. The attackers targeted men, asking what religion they professed, while also asking the victims to recite Islamic verses before being shot point-blank.
Who were the attackers?
Although a group identifying itself as the “Kashmir Resistance” claimed responsibility for the attack, although the Lashkar-e-Taiba is believed to be behind the attack with the Pakistani establishment said to have masterminded the attacks.
The Government Response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia and convened a high-level security meeting. Home Minister Amit Shah, who reached Srinagar, last night and is overseeing the situation vowing that those responsible would face severe consequences.
