Over 300 killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza; Netanyahu administration vows to continue strikes

GUWAHATI, March 18: Over 300 people have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza and ending the two-month fragile ceasefire with the Hamas with Gaza’s Ministry of Health confirming many of the killed were children.

“The health ministry has recorded more than 330 deaths, most of them Palestinian women and children, and hundreds of wounded, dozens of them in critical condition,” the head of the ministry, Mohammed Zaqut, told news agency AFP.

The Israeli strikes on Gaza came two months after the ceasefire was agreed upon during which Hamas release roughly three dozen hostages in exchange of 2,000 Palestinian prisoners released by the Israeli administration.

The Israeli military said they were “conducting extensive strikes” on Hamas targets in Gaza with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to use “increasing military strength” against the terrorist organization.

“The Security Council will convene tomorrow to discuss the situation in Gaza. It is time for the countries of the world to take seriously our unwavering commitment to bring back all our hostages home and defeat the enemy. Nothing will stop us from fighting to free our hostages who have been held in brutal Hamas captivity for 527 days. We will show no mercy against our enemies while our hostages languish in Hamas terror tunnels,” Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon said.

While Israel has accused Hamas of rejecting all offers put forward by United States presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and other mediators, Hamas accused Netanyahu and his government of unilaterally deciding to overturn the ceasefire agreement, and “putting the captives in Gaza at risk of an unknown fate”, CNN reported.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, meanwhile, said that Israel had notified the Trump administration ahead of its strikes on Gaza.

“As President Trump has made it clear, Hamas, the Houthis, all those who seek to terrorize not just Israel but also the United States of America, will see a price to pay,” Leavitt told Fox News.

She further emphasised that President Trump had made it clear that groups like Hamas and the Houthis would face serious consequences for their actions against Israel and the US.
