On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya Ayodhya’s Ram Lalla adorns Assam silk

On this auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, Ram Lalla in Ayodhya temple adorned a special dress designed by Manish Tripathi using Assam’s Muga silk and Eri silk.

Tripathi made this special dress using Assam Silk and Eri silk for Ram Lalla is definitely captivating and unique in its style.

The textile needed for the dress that Ram Lalla wore was sent by Riniki Bhuyan’s ‘Golden Thread of Assam’, a project run by entrepreneur Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In order to create this special dress, it took Tripathi and his team approximately 85 days of hard work and dedication.

Taking to X Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “अक्षय तृतीया के पावन पर्व पर आज भगवान राम का वस्त्र असम के प्रसिद्ध मुगा और एरी रेशम और स्वर्ण धागों से बनाया गया है । दशरतनंदन के श्री चरणों में असम की जनता द्वारा एक छोटी सी श्रधापूर्वक भेंट। जय जय श्री राम”

Ram Lalla will be wearing this special dress throughout the week, starting with Akshaya Tritiya.

On such special occasions, the idol of Ram Lalla is often adorned with dresses made with the most intrinsic and delicate threads.

Further, vaishnavite-themed motifs such as the shankha, peacock, shankha gada, have been embroidered in the dress.

Assam silk denotes the three major types of indigenous wild silks produced in Assam—golden muga, white pat and warm eri silk. The Assam silk industry, now centered in Sualkuchi, is a labor-intensive industry.

Assam silk has been recognized by major Indian cultural figures, most notably Mahatma Gandhi and Narayan Chandra Das.
