Guwahati: In a shameful act Nilotpal Bhuyan, Officer-in-charge Doboka Police Station under Hojai district was caught red-handed by the Anti Corruption Bureau for accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
The operation was led by Amit Hojai, DSP, Anti Corruption Bureau and his team. Based on the complaint of a person (Arif) that the Doboka police was harassing and asking for money, the ACB swung into action and arrested OC Nilotpal Bhuyan and his driver Rubul Hussain after proper investigation.
Speaking about the harassment and money being asked, the victim Arif said, “I was informed that the money should be given in an envelope. So I went to Nilotpal Bhuyan’s cabin and offered him the money given to me by the ACB team. But he rejected it and asked me if guarantor for the bail process was ready. My uncle came over and he was asked to bring photocopies of the documents. After my uncle went away Bhuyan came out of his cabin and in the car parking he asked me to hand over the money.
As the vigilance team had asked me to somehow make him count the money, I asked Bhuyan to count the money. He did not check what was inside the envelope and handed it to the driver (Rubul Hussain) of the Sumo vehicle and went back to his cabin. The vigilance team later recovered the money from the Sumo’s dashboard.”
Nilotpal Bhuyan, Officer-in-charge Doboka Police Station and the car driver Rubul Hussain are being brought to the Anti Corruption Bureau Office in Guwahati for questioning.
