GUWAHATI: Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested the citizens of the state to observe Durga Puja only with religious rituals because of COVID-19 pandemic. He urged the people to restraint the flamboyant celebration so that COVID-19 situation doesn’t deteriorate.
“Observe only religious rituals this year. We will celebrate the puja next year. I request the people of Assam not to make crowd so that COVID-19 situation doesn’t deteriorate,” Sarma said on Thursday during the inaugural programme of new flyover at Ganeshguri in Guwahati.
He stated that number of deaths is increasing day by day. Therefore, Dr. Sarma urged the people to remain alert.
“This year, we couldn’t celebrate our Bihu. We couldn’t observe Eid. But we have reached this position to observe a low-key Durga Puja. Therefore, we should remain careful so that COVID-19 situation doesn’t deteriorate after Puja,” Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
