No single case of Coronavirus in Assam: Pijush Hazarika

GUWAHATI: Assam health and family welfare minister (State) Pijush Hazarika appealed to the people not to panic due to novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) as there has been no single case detected in the state.

Addressing a press meet in Guwahati on Saturday, minister Hazarika said that total of 585 persons have been screened so far at airports in the state.

“Total 112 people from abroad have been quarantined by our medical team. Later, 7 among them suffered from fever but they tested negative,” Hazarika said.

“We have made surveillance and put our medical teams and ambulances at all the airports of Assam. Deputy Commissioners and Joint Directors of the health department of every district have been asked to quarantine immediately if any suspicious case is found,” he added.

On the other hand, state health department also asked MV Mahabahu Cruise to take necessary steps as an American tourist who had travelled in the cruise detected with Coronavirus in Bhutan.

“They have quarantined their staff. Our medical team will take over the cruise today after it reaches Jorhat,” said Pijush Hazarika.
