NIA interrogates IIT Professor Arupjyoti Saikia for Guwahati violence

GUWAHATI: National Investigation Agency interrogated a faculty member of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati today for his alleged involvement in the violence during Anti-CAA agitation in Guwahati.

Professor Arupjyoti Saikia who teaches History in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT-G was summoned under section 160 of  CrPC by the investigation agency.

NIA officials quizzed him for more than four hours at its branch office in Sonapur area of Kamrup(Metro) district. Saikia has been booked in the same case under which KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi was arrested.

Assam Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had indicated in his earlier press conference that a person working in a central government organisation was directly involved in the violent anti-CAA protests in Guwahati, especially in the Dispur area. Without naming anybody Dr. Sarma had stated that there was electronic evidence that a leading academician from Assam was trying to orchestrate the burning of Assam Secretariat at Dispur capital complex.
