Neymar, Al-Hilal terminate contract mutually as Brazilian superstar heads back to boyhood club Santos

GUWAHATI, Jan 28: Brazilian superstar Neymar is reportedly heading back to his boyhood club Santos after he and Saudi club Al-Hilal with whom he spent 18 injury-plagued months “agreed to mutually terminate the player’s contract by mutual consent”.

“Al Hilal and Neymar Jr. have agreed to terminate the player’s contract by mutual consent. Thank you and good luck, Neymar,” the club stated in a post on ‘X’, previously Twitter.

The 32-year-old former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward played just seven times since joining the club in August 2023 with a reported salary of around $104 million a year.

His stay in Saudi Arabia was plagued by injury after he ruptured a cruciate ligament in his left knee while on national duty in October 2023.

He featured in two matches for his Saudi employers, both coming as substitutes, but hasn’t played since then.

Neymar had earlier said that he was aiming to play in the 2026 FIFA Football World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.
