GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has ordered Pramod Boro-led Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam to prove its majority. The floor test should be conducted before December 26.
The development has come following a petition filed by Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) president and former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary.
Mohilary, whose party had emerged as the single largest in the just-concluded BTC polls, filed the petition, opposing formation of the council by the United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) with the BJP and Gana Suraksha Party, contending that BPF as the single-largest party should have been allowed to form the council first.
In the recently-held BTC election, BPF had emerged as the single largest party by gaining 17 out of the 40 seats. The UPPL had won 12 seats. BJP and Naba Sarania-led Gana Suraksha Party grabbed 9 and 1 seats respectively.
