Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain to join BJP on 1 August

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Two-time Congress MLA Sushanta Borgohain will officially join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 1 at afternoon 3 PM.

Borgohain, who represents the Thowra constituency in the Assam Assembly, is likely to resign from the Congress party anytime soon. Borgohain had defeated BJP candidate Kushal Duwari in the Thowra constituency and was elected to the Assembly.

Speaking to the media Borgohain said, “I have informed the Congress party that I will be joining BJP on August 1 as I was asked for a clarification on Wednesday. After the discussion with the party officials, I have pitched myself and wish them luck for their future endeavors. I have decided to join BJP and I have my stand very clear on that. And I hope I can move forward in my new journey. I do share camaraderie with the Congress party as I have been a part of it for a long time. Leaving Congress will take time but I believe all the formalities will be done within the next week and  APCC will inform my decision to the high command”.

Borgohain will be the second MLA from the Congress party to join the BJP after the saffron party comes to power in Assam for the second time.

Earlier, in June 2021, former Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
