Mizoram s COVID-19 tally rises to 1,353

Aizawl: At least 20 people, including two infants, have tested positive for coronavirus in Mizoram, taking the state”s COVID-19 caseload to 1,353, an official said on Friday.

Sixteen cases were reported from Aizawl district, three from Kolasib district and one from Lunglei district in the last 24-hours, the official said.

Two infants aged 6 and 10 months and a BSF jawan were among the newly infected persons, he said.

Of the 20 cases, 10 are locally transmitted while contact histories of six people are yet to be ascertained, the official said.

There are 603 active cases in the state while 750 people have already recovered from the virus.

According to the health department, the COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is 55.44 per cent.

Altogether, 46,638 samples have been tested till Thursday for COVID-19, it said.

Aizawl district reported the highest number of cases at 887, followed by Lunglei (214).

Meanwhile, the Mizoram government has announced one- week partial lockdown in Aizawl municipal area from midnight of Thursday till September 17 in view of the surge in coronavirus cases in the state.

Mizoram on Thursday reported 141 new COVID-19 cases, which was the highest single-day spike ever reported in the state. PTI
