Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma incinerates narcotics worth Rs 53 crore reaffirming commitment to eliminating drug menace

GUWAHATI, Jan 24: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today led the High-Level and District-Level Drug Disposal Committee of Meghalaya Police in destroying narcotics and psychotropic substances worth Rs 53.86 crore.

The incineration took place at Star Cement Ltd. in Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills District.

The drugs disposed off were connected to cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across five districts of the state: East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, and East Jaintia Hills.

This significant action highlights the Meghalaya government’s strong resolve to address the drug problem and safeguard its youth from the devastating effects of substance abuse. Through the DREAM initiative and collaborative efforts with law enforcement, the state continues to wage war against drugs to secure a healthier future for its people.
