Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Lauds Assam Government’s Rhino Conservation Efforts

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the Assam Government for its efforts towards rhino conservation in the state in his ‘Mann ki Baat’.

Addressing Mann ki Baat, PM Modi said that the poaching of rhino in the state has declined considerably over the last eight years.

PM Modi said that while there were 37 rhino deaths in 2013, 32 in 2014, the number of rhino killings dropped sharply to 2 in 2020 and 1 in 2021.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the people of Assam for showing the way when it comes to animal conservation through collective efforts.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Prime Minister’s appreciation towards Assam government’s efforts, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that efforts will continue to eliminate the menace of poaching.

“Government of Assam with support of people shall ensure that menace of poaching of our precious icon is completely eliminated,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared a post thanking prime minister Narendra Modi for his recognition. CM Sarma stated that Assam is making collective efforts in bringing safe hands-on animal preservation.

On Sunday, the prime minister’s Office (PMO) shared a post presenting the words of prime minister Modi towards Assam. The post read, “PM 

@narendramodi congratulates the people of Assam for showing the way when it comes to animal conservation through collective efforts. #MannKiBaat.”

Retweeting the post, chief minister Sarma posted, “We’re immensely motivated by Hon PM Sri @narendramodi’s recognition of our efforts on single-horned Rhino conservation. GoA, with the support of people, shall ensure that menace of poaching of our precious icon is eliminated. Guidance of Adarniya PM is precious.”

Under the guidance of CM Sarma, Assam took various collective steps in the conservation of the animals. In 2021, Assam organized an exceptional event for burning all the collected horns of one-horned rhinos. Through this event, the state government presented a message for the poachers that there is no medical significance associated with these horns.

Moreover, the government has ensured the complete security and safety of wild animals in the state. Forest officials have been ordered to take an effective lookout for the preservation of animals. 

Sharing the post of PM Modi, Assam’s chief minister, has also thanked him for his guidance. Additionally, CM Sarma has thanked the state’s people for their support in decreasing the poaching rate in the state. 

Lately, Assam has reached a milestone by recording the lowest rate of rhino poaching in the last 21 years. Announcing the outstanding achievement, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the forest officials for their contribution.

Assam CM Sarma took to his Twitter and made an admirable post. The post read, “It’s commendable that in 2021, no. of rhinos lost to poaching was lowest in 21 yrs.”
