Manipur violence: Centre constitutes committee to initiate peace process

Centre on 10 June has constituted peace committee in Manipur under the Chairpersonship of Governor Anusuiya Uikey. The peace committee comes in order to facilitate peace making process among various ethnic groups of the State, including peaceful dialogue and negotiations between conflicting parties/groups. 

The members of committee include Chief Minister, a few Ministers in the State Government, MP, MLAs and leaders from different political parties. 

Apart from them, the committee also includes former civil servants, educationists, litterateurs, artists, social workers and representatives of different ethnic groups.

Earlier on 1 June, while addressing a press conference, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had announced that a peace committee under the Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey which will have representatives of all political parties, besides representatives from both Kuki and Meitei communities and social organisations will be set up.

“Dialogue is the only solution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur,” Shah had said.
