Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr.  Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that by September end ferry tickets to Majuli will be available online through an app.

Speaking to media CM Sarma said, “No need to stand in long queues for tickets. By September 21 or 22 tickets to be made available online through a mobile app”.

CM Sarma visited Nimatighat today to take stock of the situation as a boat capsized last week in the Brahmaputra taking three lives.

After the tragic boat capsize incident passengers have been facing disturbance due to lack of boats as the government has put a ban on single-engine ferries from operating in the river Brahmaputra.

“I am in talks with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and requested him for two jetties and two RoPax boats for Assam. His response was positive and then we can give one more RoPax for Majuli,” CM Sarma informed.

As per CM Sarma, for the remaining eight ferries in Majuli, marine engines were ordered which will take up to 50-60 days to arrive and till then those eight boats will remain suspended from operating.

Between Majuli and Jorhat there will be a total of six additional ferries including Ro-Pax. He further stated that the Ro-pax service will be available three times a day- at 9 AM, 11.30 AM and 3 PM.
