Major announcements by Himanta Biswa Sarma


GUWAHATI: Attending the ‘Bhoomi Puja’ to mark the inauguration of the construction of the six-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra river connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati at Bharalumukh on Sunday, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma made some major announcements.

The key points from Sarma’s speech are:

  •  50% works of AIIMS at Changsari completed.
  • Classes at AIIMS to begin from this year.
  • Ropeway connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati to be opened on the first day of Rongali Bihu.
  • Two bridges at Palashbari and Sualkuchi planned.
  • Construction of medical colleges at Dhubri, Nagaon and Lakhimpur to be completed soon.
  • Diphu Medical College and Research Institute is ready.
  • Lakhimpur medical college will get operational on August 15.
  • 50% works of Tinsukia and Nalbari Medical Colleges done.
  • 40% works of Kokrajhar Medical College completed.
  • Work for Biswanath Medical College is under progress.
  • Charaideo Medical College to start in 3-4 months.
  • Medical College to be set-up in in Karimganj.
  • Cosntruction for cancer hospitals at 19 locations of Assam going on.
  • Work started for Golaghat Engineering College.
  • Plan to develop Batadrava, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva like Golden Temple of Amritsar. Rs. 150 crore to be spent and work to start in 20-25 days.
  • In place of Ashoka Hotel and Circuit House, largest Science Centre of Northeast and a convention centre are being constructed.
  • Planetariums will be set up in 6 more locations.
  • Works of 6 new government colleges to be finished this year.
  • Construction for 9 women college is going on a speedy process.
  • Work has started in Bajali, Hojai, Bihpuria and Narayanpur to built new Universities.
  • Construction for the University of Culture in Majuli has been kicked off.
  • Work for University of Sports has started in Chabua
  • Construction of Mini Secretariat in Barak Valley is also going on.
    Rupshi Airport in Dhubri District has been completed.
  • In last 1 year around 1000 wooden bridges have been turned into RCC ones.
  • Around 16 thousand KMs new roads have been constructed in last 4 years.
