Los Angeles wildfires: Beyoncé donates 2.5 million USD towards relief efforts

GUWAHATI, Jan 15: Singer Beyoncé has donated 2.5 million US Dollars to the Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund. The fund was organised by her charitable foundation, BeyGood.

The foundation announced the news in an Instagram post.

“Los Angeles we stand with you,” the post read. “BeyGOOD is taking action by announcing the LA Fire Relief Fund with a donation of 2.5 million dollars. The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.”

The wildfires have destroyed more than 12,000 structures and forced nearly one lakh people to evacuate from their homes and seek refuge in safer places.

Although the cause of the devastating blaze is yet to be known, the inferno has become the worst wildfire in the history of the United States.

Meanwhile, reports say initial estimates have pegged the damage and economic losses between USD 135 billion to USD 150 billion.

Six major wildfires — the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Kenneth Fire, Hurst Fire, Woodley Fire, Lidia Fire, Sunset Fire, and Tyler Fire — are blazing around Los Angeles.

The wildfires in Palisades and Eaton have been the worst and both, reports stated, are now among the most destructive in California’s history.
