Lok sabha Polls 2024: BJP’s crucial meeting of leaders of 12 eastern states begins in Guwahati

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 12 eastern states including Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal began a meeting in Guwahati today, Thursday, July 6 at 10:00 am, to discuss the preparations and strategies for the 2024 general elections.

BJP presidents, general secretaries, and other leaders of the respective states are present in the ‘Mission 2024’ meeting today.

Earlier speaking to the media the Assam BJP president said, “On July 6, a meeting of 12 eastern states including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal will be held in Guwahati.”

“During this meeting, presidents, general secretaries, and other leaders of the respective states will be present. Preparation, and strategy for 2024 polls will be discussed during the meeting,” Kalita added.

The meeting comes amid an opposition unity meet that took place in June this year. Opposition leaders from 17 parties presented a unified front assuring that they would fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections together.

The meeting was convened by Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal-United leader Nitish Kumar and had become the focus of heavy criticism from the ruling BJP.

Opposition leaders are likely to meet again in Shimla this month to “prepare an agenda on how to move ahead together while working in our respective states to fight BJP in 2024.”

The meeting is being viewed as a starting point for Opposition unity ahead of Lok Sabha polls to collectively take on the Narendra Modi-led BJP. While the attendees laid emphasis on their unified stance against the BJP, differences arose between the Congress and AAP over the Delhi ordinance.

“Until it publicly denounces the black ordinance and declares that all 31 of its RS MPs will oppose the ordinance in the Rajya Sabha, it will be difficult for AAP to participate in future meetings of like-minded parties where the Congress is a participant,” the party said.
