Lok Sabha Elections: 75% voter turnout till 5 pm in Assam

An estimated 75 per cent of the 86,47,869 voters exercised their franchise on Friday during the first phase of polling of the Lok Sabha Election in Assam.

Around 75 per cent votes were cast in the five Lok Sabha constituencies of Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Kaziranga, Dibrugarh and Sonitpur in Assam till 5 pm on Friday.

Sonitpur recorded a turnout of 76.02 per cent, followed by 74.65 per cent in Jorhat,75.42 per cent in Lakhimpur, 75.75 per cent in Kaziranga and 75.22 per cent in Dibrugarh.

The polling, which began at 7 am, concluded at 5 pm today.

A total of 40,004 polling personnel were engaged in the first phase, with a posse of security personnel from state and central forces.

A total of 86,47,869 voters will decide the fate of 35 candidates in these five seats.
